How would you describe your writing style?

I write with clients’ own words, so in many ways I adopt their style in order for our text to absolutely sound and feel like theirs. My writing is focused on the people at its heart and so my subject matter is always the stuff of their lives: their thoughts and feelings, their relationships and what matters most to them.

Do you put the text into the final format we want?

I leave any choosing, organisation and related purchase of a final presentation copy to you. I simply provide the actual words. Having said that, it’s always helpful to have an idea before we begin of the final form your text might take and I often pass on what’s worked well in the past. What if we’re not very confident writers?

That’s not a problem at all. I’ve a wealth of experience in supporting clients who might lack confidence in their writing. The good news is that these commissions only ever involve you writing about your own specialist subjects, so there’s nothing to worry about. As long as you’re committed to the process, we’ll be just fine.

Does it matter where our contributors are located?

No, not at all. Provided anyone you would like to contribute has access to email and device they can write on, that should be enough. I will need to be able to email them, send them questions and receive their written answers, but there is no need for us to meet in person. We can also chat on the phone or Zoom of course, if needs be.

Can anyone hire you?

Depending on the nature of the commission, sometimes I’ll be contacted by a third party e.g. parents of an engaged couple or grand-parents of a new arrival, wanting to give this experience as a gift. As long as everyone is fully briefed and all keen to be involved, that’s all I ask. My contract will be with whoever is paying the bill.

Is it possible to split the bill?

If we have various parties creatively involved and you’d like to split my fee between you, that’s no problem. This can work particularly well if you have different family members contributing to a Portrait capturing family life or perhaps a group of friends all wanting to be a part of a Portrait in Prose ‘in memoriam’.
